In June, Fundo La Pampita transforms. Mornings arrive with frost over the pastures and the animals gather near the corrals seeking the sun's warmth when it appears. In Aysén, winter doesn't warn you: it arrives with low fog and southern winds that bend the canelo trees. For us, livestock care becomes the axis of the day. Heading out early to check the state of the paddocks, making sure the water hasn't frozen in the troughs, and ensuring every animal has enough forage are the first tasks of every morning in Patagonia.

The bond between people and animals at Fundo La Pampita goes far beyond production. Some animals have been with us for years, know the family's voices and footsteps, and are an inseparable part of the territory. In the agroforestry system we manage in Aysén, animals play a fundamental role: they keep the pastures in balance, contribute to natural soil fertilization, and allow the native forest to coexist with the paddocks without competing. In winter, that relationship becomes closer and more intense: every afternoon they need to be gathered, counted, and checked to make sure none is left exposed to the storm.
